Job Description

Now Hiring! 1st Shift Cleanroom Assemblers - $20/hr

Job Description

This role focuses on mechanical and laboratory assembly of highly specialized sensor products in a startup manufacturing environment. You will gradually build complex units independently, support research and development activities, and manage batch processes from start to finish. The work involves fine, small-scale assemblies, wire soldering, microscope work, documentation, and close collaboration with engineering teams to bring new manufacturing processes from concept to production.

Responsibilities

  • Perform mechanical assembly of sensor units, progressing to independently building complete units once trained.
  • Execute repetitive and easy-to-learn assembly processes while consistently meeting daily production goals.
  • Carry out wire soldering tasks, including fine, small-scale soldering on assemblies.
  • Conduct very small mechanical and medical assemblies that require strong manual dexterity and attention to detail.
  • Perform microscope assembly work and visual inspections to verify product quality and dimensional accuracy.
  • Support non-standard and prototype builds in collaboration with research and development engineers.
  • Review manufacturing documents, follow paper-based travelers, and update computer records accurately.
  • Maintain and update raw material logs and batch record reports, including measuring and documenting raw material usage in the manufacturing lab.
  • Use hand tools and additional laboratory tools such as multimeters and pipettes to assemble and test products.
  • Run company-developed macros to set times and voltages, operate sensors, prepare solutions, and set products up for calibration.
  • Participate in the creation and deposition of enzyme layers over sensor surfaces to enable glucose reaction and calibration preparation.
  • Manage batch processes, starting with multiple sensors at once, and coordinate overlapping batches while monitoring progress and next steps.
  • Apply strong time management skills to move batches through long process steps, return to earlier batches as they complete waiting periods, and maintain focus over multi-hour cycle times.
  • Perform dimensional inspection and record dimensional data as part of quality control and documentation requirements.
  • Troubleshoot assembly and process issues and contribute to process improvement initiatives on the manufacturing line.
  • Execute builds that are not yet standard, working from engineering and R&D instructions and translating them into reliable production practices.
  • Help drive the manufacturing line to achieve pilot builds and support the introduction of new manufacturing processes.
  • Communicate effectively with engineering and manufacturing leadership, providing feedback on processes, documentation, and build performance.
  • Follow all ISO Class 8 cleanroom policies and procedures, including gowning requirements and adherence to contamination control standards.
  • Adapt to changing build schedules, shift times, and priorities, and remain self-motivated in a dynamic startup environment.
  • Collaborate closely with teammates, including staff members, and actively participate in a culture of accountability, openness, and continuous improvement.

Essential Skills

  • Previous mechanical assembly experience, including manual assembly of small components.
  • Experience with semi-automated manufacturing processes and equipment.
  • Hands-on experience with batch records and batch processing in a manufacturing or laboratory setting.
  • prototype or cartridge assembly, reagent manufacturing kit assembly, or similar assembly line work.
  • Prior experience performing research and development-related builds or supporting R&D activities.
  • Comfort with wire soldering and using hand tools for assembly and rework.
  • Ability to perform microscope assembly and visual inspection work on very small components.
  • Experience working in laboratory or medical assembly environments, including handling sensors and reagents.
  • Strong documentation skills, especially with paper-based travelers and good documentation practices.
  • Ability to sit and stand throughout the day and comfortably lift up to 25 pounds.
  • Effective communication skills for providing feedback to engineering and manufacturing leadership.
  • Demonstrated time management skills to handle long process steps, overlapping batches, and changing priorities.
  • Proven ability to learn new processes quickly and operate effectively in a fast-paced, startup-style environment.
  • Willingness to collaborate closely with team members and maintain a positive, team-oriented attitude.

Why Work Here?

You join a late-stage startup developing cutting-edge wearable biosensor technology with the potential to transform medical devices. This environment offers the opportunity to contribute early in a company’s growth and benefit as it scales, including access to full benefits and stock options upon conversion. The culture emphasizes accountability, empowerment, and open communication, encouraging you to speak up when something is not right and to work with your teammates to improve processes and the work environment. You have the chance to shape how the organization operates, build the environment you want to be part of, and grow your career alongside innovative products and ambitious manufacturing goals.

Work Environment

You work in an ISO Class 8 cleanroom with strict policies and procedures to ensure product quality and contamination control. Standard cleanroom attire includes gown, mask, gloves, hair cover, and shoe covers, and personal care requirements such as no nail polish, artificial nails, or fragrances must be followed. The role involves both sitting and standing throughout the day, with frequent focus on small assemblies and microscope work. Process cycle times can last several hours, requiring sustained concentration and careful monitoring of multiple batches in parallel. You may need to learn and execute over 100 different processes as the manufacturing operation grows. Work hours require flexibility for 6:00 a.m., 6:30 a.m., or 8:00 a.m. start times, and you must be available for overtime, including occasional Saturday work with advance notice. The environment is fast-paced and dynamic, with evolving build schedules and large manufacturing requirements, so adaptability, self-motivation, and a willingness to go above and beyond are highly valued.
